Ambassadors and High Commissioners of various countries affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) based in Dhaka paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tareque Rahman. During the meeting, they congratulated him on assuming the office of Prime Minister.
At this time, the Prime Minister welcomed their greetings and expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and the people for the support from OIC member countries.
The courtesy call took place on Tuesday (May 12) at the Secretariat.
Representatives of the participating countries expressed interest in further strengthening relations with Bangladesh in various sectors, including investment, trade, education, health, textile, and pharmaceutical industries. They also reiterated their commitment to stand by Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Tareque Rahman, at this juncture, recalled Bangladesh’s fraternal relations with OIC member countries since the time of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and expressed hope for these relations to deepen further in the future. He also emphasized increasing people-to-people contact and sought cooperation from OIC member states in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
Ambassadors and High Commissioners from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Palestine, Algeria, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, along with Heads of Mission from Iran, Iraq, and Libya, were present.
Also present were the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Foreign Secretary Mu. Farhadul Islam, and the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon.
