Fakhrul, Tamim Among 15 Honored with Khaleda Zia Memorial Gold Medal

Fifteen prominent individuals of the country have been honored with the newly introduced ‘Uncompromising Stateswoman Begum Khaleda Zia Memorial Gold Medal – 2026’.

The names of the awardees were announced on Friday (May 8) through a press release. The list of recipients includes BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and BCB President Tamim Iqbal, along with several ministers and advisors to the government.

The New York-based organization ‘Bangladesh Probashi Nagorik Committee, Inc.’ launched this medal in memory of the late former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The organization stated that talented individuals who make special contributions to the country’s development will be honored with this award every year.

The nominees for the 2026 Gold Medal are — Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku; Minister of Women and Children Affairs Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain; Prime Minister’s Advisor Ismail Jabiullah; State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque; and Prime Minister’s Advisor Mahdi Amin.

The list also includes — Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Kamal Uddin Sabuj; ‘Mayer Daak’ organizer Sanjida Islam Tuli; President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Tamim Iqbal; litterateur Dr. Mahbub Hasan; poet Abdul Hai Shikdar; journalist Ashraf Kaysar; industrialist Dr. Abul Kashem Haider; businessman Abdul Hoque; and Begum Zia’s personal assistant Fatema Begum.
